Specimen Care

Your taxidermy mount is a work of art made of natural materials. While pest deterrents are used during the creation process some critters are not easily dissuaded. Regular inspection of your taxidermy art will ensure it's longevity for decades.

Preservation Process

Our preservation process begins with the utmost care and respect for the animal. The creation of your mount is done using non-toxic materials that are chosen to stand the test of time, ensuring that your mount remains stable and beautiful when properly cared for.

Regular Cleaning

We recommend regularly cleaning your mount at least once a year, preferably every 6 months. If kept on a regular schedule this should only involve a gentle wipe down of the mount using a microfiber cloth, lightly dampened with distilled water. Brush the cloth over the mount, moving in the direction of the fur or feather pattern to remove dust.

Mounts should also be kept out of direct sunlight, which can irreversibly bleach fur and feathers.

Pest Management

Taxidermy is prone to attracting insects such as moths and carpet beetles. During your regular cleaning of your mount, make sure to inspect the surface below the mount for any dust or loose hairs/feathers. You can also pick up the mount and give it a gentle tap to look for falling dust.

If you discover signs of insect activity the easiest remedy is to place your piece in the freezer, wrapped in a plastic bag. Generally you should follow the 3-1-3 rule, three days in the freezer, one day out, three more days in the freezer. This method ensures that all adults and any eggs that have been laid are killed.
